Durban - Two men died when their car crashed into a tree in the rural area of Glendale, in the Ilembe district in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said on Saturday.

“Glendale is area a rural about 35km north-west of Stanger, and the incident occurred at around 1am,” KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said in a statement. EMS paramedics and a local private ambulance service responded to the crash, in which a car had left the road and smashed into a large tree, he said.

Paramedics found the two male occupants of the vehicle had already died before paramedics arrived on the scene.

The men were estimated to be aged about 25 and 30. Firefighters from the KwaDukuza fire department had to use the jaws of life to free the men from the mangled vehicle.

The exact circumstances resulting in the crash were being investigated by police, Mckenzie said.
