A chief matric invigilator has been suspended for exam irregularities in Durban.
A chief matric invigilator was suspended for exam irregularities in KwaMashu, the KwaZulu-Natal education department said on Friday.
“On Wednesday, exam monitors visited the school and found 14
candidates writing the history paper one examination. The team discovered that the school principal had collected 20 question papers,” said provincial education department spokeswoman Mbali Thusi.
The chief invigilator was also the school principal of J.E. Ndlovu Secondary School where the exams were underway.
“He was then requested to handover the extra copies. He handed over five question papers. On interrogation he handed over the last paper, which was in his office. The answers were written on the paper.”
The principal was called to a meeting with district officials and senior provincial examination officials where he “confessed to an irregular act in terms of the policy”, Thusi said.
He was suspended as chief invigilator but not from his post as principal, she added.
The administration of the exams was taken over by the district office and a deputy principal from another school would be appointed to oversee exam-writing at the school.
“We will continue to apply a zero tolerance to such misconduct during these examinations,” Thusi said.
“This must send a strong warning to everyone that we will deal harshly with any individual found guilty of committing an irregular act.” - Sapa

Someone who holds the highest position in a school commits frauds and the zero tolerance means that he doesn't get to invigilate during exams???? Im at a loss for words...Unbelievable.....

Is this acceptable behaviour - a school principal caught in corruption and fraud? because if it is not then surely the perpetrator should be immediately fired, arrested for his crimes and locked up? Or is this the example we now set for our kids? Or is this another example of educators incapable of raising standards and resorting to cheating? Is the guilty party here not the Education Dept who set higher standards but provided little or no assistance to incompetents? Is the principal a member of SADTU?

Why is he not not precautionary suspended till a hearing is set down. Sorry I forgot he is a Sadtu member, a comrade. He will be displaced as all Sadtu members in senior positions are treated by a Sadtu run KZN DoE

So then why is he not fired, and gone to court as what he has done is a criminal offence. No wonder SA is like it is.And why are the general public not in an uproar demanding he be fired. If the citizens dont demand, nothing will be done to fix the countrys problems

How can this be a strong warning, he is still principle, kids are supposed to look up to the principle he should be fired immediatley, the message given to the children at the school is basically cheating isnt that bad, he just wont have to work while the exams are continuing. Harsh I must say.

Zero tollerence ?? They suspend him from invigilating but he still keeps his job as principle ? Why on earth wasnt he arrested for fraud and locked up, and suspended from the education department until his disciplinary hearing where he sould be fired on the spot. But as always, no doubt he will get to keep his job as principle. He should be setting an example not defrauding the system.

Why not fire him- why is he only suspended from invigilator post- he is the school manager- he must be suspended altogether and then fired

Eish- has the dept got the guts to fire him? I dont think so- SADTU will be on their back to have him reinstated- watch the space
