Durban - Strong winds, showers and low temperatures have been forecast for the east coast until the weekend, the South African Weather Service has warned.

Forecaster Stacy Colborne said the temperatures for Durban and Margate today were minimum temperatures of between 10 and 12ºC, and maximum temperatures of between 18 and 20ºC.

“There is also a 30 percent chance of rain with south-westerly winds of five to 10 knots, (which will become south-easterly after 10am), expected for both areas. It will also be cloudy for most of the day,” she said.

Durban and Margate could expect a 30 percent chance of rain tomorrow, rising to a 60 percent chance in the afternoon.

Richards Bay was also expected to remain cool, with maximum temperatures in the low 20s and a 60 percent chance of showers tomorrow and on Thursday.

Colborne said that it was too early to know how much rain had fallen from last night to this morning.

“The conditions were caused by the appearance of an upper air system commonly known as a cut-off low pressure system,” she said. - Daily News
