Durban - KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC Willies Mchunu extended condolences to the families of three people killed in a car crash in the province on Tuesday.

“On behalf of government, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident and wish a speedy recovery to the person in hospital.”

Mchunu's office said that preliminary reports indicated the driver lost control of the vehicle on the R103 between Ladysmith and Colenso. It overturned, killing three people.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert McKenzie said earlier a 12-year-old girl was admitted to hospital in a serious condition after the crash.

Mchunu urged motorists to adhere to the rules of the road.

“I would like to call upon all motorists to speak to their consciences and make a commitment that while they are behind the wheel it is their responsibility to save lives.”
