Durban – A man was killed when he lost control of the bakkie he was driving on Durban’s notorious Fields Hill on Tuesday afternoon.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said that paramedics arrived at the accident scene on the M13 to find the bakkie lying on its roof with the driver still trapped in the cab.

The man had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the accident scene.

The reason for the accident was not known, but Durban was blanketed with a fine rain for most of Tuesday.

Fields Hill used to be the main access highway into Durban and is notorious for accidents.

In 2013, a truck driven by Swazi national Sanele Goodness May tore down the hill and ploughed into four minibus taxis and two cars killing 24 people.
