There was “great relief” as what was initially thought to be a fatality in a Durban fire was found to be a mannequin rather than human remains, paramedics said on Saturday.
“After the fire was extinguished and the place ventilated firemen and police search and rescue searched the building and found what first appeared as a body to be ... a burnt mannequin,” Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.
He said it was “a great relief” that no one was injured in the fire.
Earlier it was believed that a person had died in the blaze in a residential building in Durban Central.
Residents had to jump out of the windows of the building to escape the blaze.
The cause of the fire was unknown. - Sapa
