Durban - Two fishermen were seriously injured by a Marlin that weighed about 140 kilograms during a fishing competition in Durban on Saturday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
“Both crew members are in stable but serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit in hospital,” NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said.
A fisher man was reeling in the Marlin when it jumped out of the water and crashed through the windscreen of the boat. It landed in the back of the boat.
Its fin hit a 35-year-old man and he fell onto a 33-year-old man.
The 35-year-old man sustained injuries on his back, rib cage and stomach.
The other man was injured on his shoulder and back.
“The skipper has confirmed that the Marlin went over the back of the boat and then disappeared back into the sea,” Lambinon said. The men were expected to fully recover.
