Johannesburg - A man died after he fell into the water while fishing at the north beach in Umdloti in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said.
The 20-year-old man was on a fishing trip with a friend when one of them hooked a large fish, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.
The man went to grab the line and fell into the water. He was then washed out to sea.
The friend dived in to rescue him, but also landed in difficulty, said Botha.
A bystander pulled both of the men out the water and started to resuscitate the 20-year-old, but he was declared dead on the scene.
