Five people were killed and six others were injured in an accident in Ashburton on Saturday, said KwaZulu-Natal emergency workers.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha said a bakkie which was carrying eleven people seemed to have lost control and overturned.

“A tow truck responding to the scene rounded the bend and collided into the remains of the bakkie.”

Five people were certified dead on the scene.

One person was hospitalised with critical injuries while another five were in a serious condition.

They were transported to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for further treatment. - Sapa
