Durban - Four farm workers died when they were hit by a truck in Tongaat on Thursday morning, said KwaZulu-Natal transport and community safety MEC Willies Mchunu.
“Reports indicate that a truck lost control and allegedly ran over four pedestrians,” he said in a statement.
“The four deceased were farmworkers who were on their way to work. This is gruesome and shocking.”
Mchunu said the accident took place at an intersection. Further investigations were being conducted.
“The death of pedestrians is a serious concern. The department is now strengthening pedestrian safety campaigns to address this scourge,” he said.
“I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.” - Sapa
