KwaZulu-Natal - Four people were missing after a severe thunderstorm in the Msinga area in northern KwaZulu-Natal, the co-operative governance and traditional affairs department said on Tuesday.

Further details on what happened to the four were not immediately available, spokesman Lennox Mabaso said.

Houses were flooded when the uThukela River broke its banks after the rain started on Monday around 6pm.

Co-operative governance MEC Nomusa Dube has dispatched disaster teams to help affected residents.

Dube would visit the area on Tuesday morning to assess the damage. - Sapa
