Durban - A German tourist who was admitted to St Augustine’s Hospital’s intensive care unit after the boat she was in capsized off Durban’s Oasis Beach on Tuesday, has recovered.
The hospital confirmed on Thursday that the patient had been discharged.
The tourist, she was among 11 Germans in the ill-fated boat, which capsized at the end of a whale-watching outing, apparently after being side-swiped by a wave.
The skipper, Ben van Rensburg, had been charged with operating a boat in a restricted area, said Superintendent Jayce Govender, the eThekwini municipal lifeguard manager.
He said the boat should not have been in those waters.
Govender said it was because of the good work of his team of lifeguards that the tourists, including two who were trapped under the boat, were rescued. - Daily News
