Airports Company SA (Acsa) is considering approaches by developers who want to build a hotel at King Shaka International Airport.

“We have been approached by various parties and we are seriously considering it,” Terence Delomoney, Acsa’s regional general manager, said in an interview at the Indaba tourism trade show at the Durban ICC.

“Having a hotel at an airport is becoming the norm. It makes the airport package complete.”

Linda Pampallis, the managing director of tour and travel company Thompsons SA, said a hotel at the airport would allow Durban to become a hub, with passengers using it to fly to other destinations.

Delomoney also said the airport would have a fuel service station in the next two years. “The environmental impact assessment has been done,” he said.

And in two weeks, construction on the redesigned pick-up zone would be finished.

“It is going to be more user-friendly. There will be 42 pick-up points and people will drive through a boom and get a ticket,” Delomoney said.

Drivers will get free parking for 20 minutes and will then have to pay.

“But we want to encourage people to use it for what it is meant for,” he said. - Daily News
