The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) on Wednesday said it was investigating the shooting of the KwaZulu-Natal gospel singer Sifiso Mzulwini.

The iThemba Gospel singer was killed last week by police as they tried to arrest him.

The Mercury newspaper last week reported that according to police management Mzulwini was a wanted criminal, sought in connection with several robberies in Durban.

The ICD said that it would not comment on the investigation until it has been finalised.

“Once all the legalities have been complied with, a report on the outcome of the investigation will be issued,” spokesman Moses Dlamini said in a statement.

Mzulwini was a founding member of the group, which performed at several government events and at the wedding of National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele and at the funeral of eThekwini regional chairperson John Mchunu. -
