Johannesburg - Two men were each handed life sentences for murder in the Madadeni High Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.
Msawenkosi Masuku, 26, and Sifiso Ntshingila, 21, both received an additional 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 10 years for attempted murder and six years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Colonel Jay Naicker said.
They were sentenced on Friday.
“On 14 March 2012, the (men) accosted two Ethiopian nationals in their tuck-shop where one was shot and killed, and the other one was injured,” Naicker said.
One of the perpetrators fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime vouchers and three cellphones.
Two days later, Masuku and Ntshingila were arrested.
“(They) were found in possession of an unlicensed pistol and six live rounds of ammunition.”
The firearm was sent for ballistic testing, and it was confirmed that it had been used in the killing.
The two were subsequently convicted. - Sapa
