The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal sent its condolences on Monday morning to the families of 10 people killed in a bus crash after the annual reed dance festival at the weekend.
“According to media reports, the bus was carrying mainly young Zulu maidens returning from the annual Reed Dance Festival which took place at Nyokeni Royal Palace on Saturday,” the provincial African National Congress said in a statement.
Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo said nine girls and one adult died in the bus accident which happened on the R66 in the Indundulu area near Eshowe on Sunday afternoon.
“We are in utter shock at this loss of human life and we also wish a quick recovery to all those injured. We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” said the ANC.
“The traffic authorities and police should thoroughly investigate the actual cause of the accident to determine whether the bus was overloaded or unroadworthy.” - Sapa
