Hammarsdale - A man was in a critical condition after falling eight metres from a gantry inside a building in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, paramedics said.

The man sustained serious injuries to his head and back, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

The man was believed to be a construction worker. He was working on the high structure before falling.

Advanced life support was used to stabilise him on the scene before he was taken to a nearby hospital.
