Durban - A 23-year-old man has drowned in the Mpanjati river mouth, at Glenmore Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert McKenzie said by the time paramedics arrived at the scene, a group of bystanders had already recovered the man from the water.

“Upon examining the man, paramedics found that he had already died,” McKenzie said.

He said the man was declared dead at the scene.

Police were investigating the circumstances leading up to the drowning.
