Durban - A man drowned after being swept out to sea at Ramsgate beach, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said lifeguards brought the man back to shore but he had stopped breathing.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the holidaymaker but were unsuccessful.

Botha said a 17-year-old boy was also swept out to sea at the Durban South beach on Tuesday morning.

He was bought back to shore by lifeguards, but had taken in a lot of sea water.

The boy was taken to a local hospital. - Sapa
