Durban - A man sustained life-threatening injuries after he was run over by a taxi and flung over a bridge in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

After being run over, he was “somehow flung over” the bridge, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

He fell to the ground about 10m below road level.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and had to clamber down the embankment with their equipment to stabilise the critically injured man,” he said.

“After he was treated and immobilised on a trauma board they hoisted him to the road level before he was transported to hospital for the care that he required.”

The accident happened on Edendale Road near Henley Dam. - Sapa
