A man has been arrested in Creighton for allegedly shooting dead two policeman and injuring a third during a raid at an illegal liquor outlet in the town, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
“A 67-year old suspect has been arrested for the murder of two police officers … A 9mm pistol suspected to be the murder weapon has been seized,” spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Station commander Captain Sidney Bongani Hlengwa, 46, and Constable Zamikhaya Patrick Hlangulela, 32, were killed, while Sergeant Aron Siyabonga Gcaleka, 39, was wounded.
The owner of the outlet allegedly shot at the officers when they asked to see a liquor licence during a raid in Creighton, located off the R612, south of Donnybrook, on Thursday afternoon.
The man will appear in court soon facing charges of murder and attempted murder. - Sapa
