Durban - A Durban maintenance worker was serious injured when he jumped from an electrical pole to the ground to avoid a snake, paramedics said on Monday.

“Reports from the man (are) that he climbed up a ladder to do maintenance work. When he got to the top he came face to face with the snake and decided to jump,” said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

He said paramedics found the man lying on the ground. He was stabilised on the scene and taken to a Netcare hospital in Durban. - Sapa
