With only 42 days left to the start of the matric final exams, thousands of Grade 12 pupils have their heads in their books.

KwaZulu-Natal - With only 42 days left to the start of the matric final exams, thousands of KwaZulu-Natal Grade 12 pupils have their heads in their books preparing for the critical tests while they tackle trial exams.

By now, schools are expected to have completed the syllabus to give pupils ample time for revision. For many schools, trial exams started on Friday and will continue until the end of the month.

On Monday, Grade 12 pupils at Burnwood Secondary School in Sydenham said they had not encountered a difficult paper since the start of the trials. They said the three-hour mathematics paper one was enjoyable, if you prepared well for it.

Pupils are writing maths paper two and Afrikaans paper three on Tuesday.

Nkosinathi Sishi, head of the provincial Education Department said trial exams aimed to help pupils prepare for the final exams and know what to expect and how to answer questions.

The department has set up 115 study centres that are open 24 hours, staffed by people who can assist in subjects. - Daily News
