This year’s Spar Women’s 10/5km race, which takes place in Durban on Sunday has a new route that finishes at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead.

The 10km race begins at 8am in Walnut Road (between the ICC and the Durban Exhibition Centre) and the 5km at 8.45am in Stalwart Simelane Street, close to Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead.

“With an expected field of up to 17 000, we would like to encourage participants to find out ahead of time which roads they can access into the city and where it would be best for them to park. Runners need to plan to get to the stadium early – this way, we can avoid congestion,” said race director Brad Glasspoole.

The following roads will be closed at the following times:

5am-9am: Walnut Road between Bram Fischer Road and Dr AB Xuma Street.

5am-10pm: Stalwart Simelane Street between KE Masinga Road and Somtseu Road.

6am-11.30pm: Masabalala Yengwa Avenue between Athlone Drive and KE Masinga Road (south-bound only).

6am-10am: Stalwart Simelane Street to Sandile Thusi/Argyle Road – both directions.

6am-11am: M4 from Sandile Thusi/Argyle Road to Athlone Drive (north-bound).

6am-11am: Athlone Drive from Snell Parade to Masabalala Yengwa Avenue.

7am-9am: Dr AB Xuma Street Between Samora Michel Street and Florence Nzama Street.

7am-9am: Florence Nzama Street between Monty Naicker and Somtseu Road.

7am-9am: Bram Fischer between Brickhill and Samora Machel.

7am-9am: KE Masinga between Samora Machel and Florence Nzama.

6am-1pm: The Kingsmead Stadium precinct.

All roads will be open by noon.
