Durban - Horns blow and jets of water spray from the new tug, Mvezo, as she sets sail from the Port of Durban to Port Elizabeth on Saturday. The Mvezo is the first of nine new tugs being built in Durban for Transnet.

Southern African Shipyards was awarded the R1.4 billion contract.

Port Elizabeth port manager, Rajesh Dana, said: “The tug was named after the small village in our province where Nelson Mandela was born. So, in a sense, we really are welcoming her home.”

The tug is expected to arrive in Port Elizabeth on Monday.
