About 2500 KwaZulu-Natal education officials doing work for the department have not declared their business interests, MEC Senzo Mchunu said on Thursday.
“The assessment is based on the fact that, for the 2011/12 financial year, the Auditor General has identified close to 2500
employees who are doing business where there is no approval that can be found in this regard,” he said in a statement.
In February, the education department approved policies compelling officials to declare their business interests.
Mchunu said the officials needed to urgently complete forms declaring their remuneration for work outside the public service, and conflicts of interest.
“This kind of practice is not acceptable and as a department we need to put a stop to it.”
Disciplinary steps would be taken against transgressors. - Sapa
