Durban - A man, believed to be in his 40s, was killed Thursday morning after part of a building collapsed on him on Audley Road in Durban CBD’s, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found a number of workers on the scene and were informed that the men had been demolishing the building when part of it collapse, burying one of the workers.

“Paramedics and fire services went to work, removing the rubble as to free the man,” said Meiring. “After some time, the body of the man was freed from beneath a large pile of rubble. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene.”

Local authorities are investigating the tragedy.
