Durban - A man died when the heavy goods vehicle he was driving overturned on the N2 near Paddock in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning, paramedics said.

Another man was injured when a bakkie overturned on the R33 near Helpmekaar on Friday, Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert Mckenzie said.

The man was treated on scene and taken to hospital for further medical care.

Mckenzie said although the province was experiencing snowfall and cold weather conditions, the accidents could not yet be attributed to the weather.

“Even though there were inclement weather conditions at the time of these accidents, it is not known if the weather conditions contributed to these accidents and the police are investigating further,” he said.

As the cold weather conditions were expected to continue throughout the province over the weekend, Mckenzie urged people to exercise caution, especially while driving.

“If travelling especially long distances, or [going] to see the snow, be extremely careful when driving, remembering that the roads due to snow and rain may be slippery, which will also result in [the need for] increased stopping distances.”
