WHILE some of the world’s top musicians and singers have given Durban a miss on recent tours, the city is set to host Usher early next year.

Big Concerts announced the concert yesterday, following speculation on Twitter and Facebook.

Usher will be the headline act of the Hansa Festival of Legends at the ICC Durban Arena on March 7.

The global R&B star is the winner of 17 Billboard Music Awards and five Grammy awards.

His career took off after being discovered on a star search television programme and, by 1994, he had made his mark on the international music scene with his debut album.

Almost 20 years on, with massive chart-topping singles such as U Got It Bad and Grammy-winning singles U Remind Me and U Don’t Have to Call, Usher has cemented his place in musical folklore.

In early 2010, Usher released his seventh album, Raymond V. Raymond, with the massive hit OMG, featuring will.i.am, holding the number one spot on the US Billboard R&B chart for seven weeks, and topping the charts in the UK.

The American singer-songwriter, dancer, entrepreneur and actor has just teamed up with DJ David Guetta to release their much-anticipated new track Without You.

Usher, joined by a list of South Africa’s top urban music stars, would also perform at Cape Town’s Grand Arena on March 3 and Orlando Stadium in Soweto on March 10. Ticket prices for Durban range from R250 to R450 and go on sale at Computicket at 9am on Friday.
