R25 000 bounty for ATM bombing suspect

Police have offered a R25 000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspected ATM bomber, murderer and prison escaper Menzi Hector Mabaso, who is believed to be operating in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Mabaso has been on the run since November, after he escaped from custody in Gauteng.

Police Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said the 26-year-old was suspected of ATM bombings, a murder, attempted murder and hijacking at Bergville, Winterton and Joburg between May and December last year.

She said about R560 000 was stolen in the ATM bombings. Mabaso is believed to be in Ladysmith.

“He escaped from court in Joburg while appearing for a murder and ATM bombing. He shot and killed a police officer who was responding to the ATM bombing.

“While we were busy looking for him, he committed an attempted murder during an ATM bombing in Winterton. He also continued with his ATM bombings spree in Mondlo and Bergville,” said Jeevan.
