Two KwaZulu-Natal field rangers found dead in Lake Nhlabane near Richards Bay will be buried this weekend, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife said on Thursday.

Spokesman Musa Mntambo said the funeral of Mbazwani Mhlongo, 57, would be held at the eTshaneni Area in Mkuze on Saturday, and that of Phumlani Mthembu, 34, on Sunday at the Phelandaba area in KwaNgwanase, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The two went missing at Lake Nhlabane in the Enseleni Nature Reserve last Friday.

They were part of a four-man patrol that found four gill nets and a canoe at the reserve, which they decided to confiscate.

Mhlongo and Mthembu opted to paddle the canoe back to base, while the other two walked back.

Mhlongo and Mthembu failed to arrive and a massive search was launched. Their bodies were found in the lake earlier this week, along with the canoe. - Sapa
