Durban – Seven people were killed in an accident involving two cars and a truck in Northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

KwaZulu-Natal emergency medical services (EMS) spokesman Robert McKenzie said one person was seriously injured but the truck driver escaped injury.

KwaZulu-Natal transport department spokesman Kwanale Ncalane said the crash happened on the P34 between Dundee and Vryheid, near Blood River.

"It is believed that one vehicle was overtaking while there was an oncoming vehicle," he said.

McKenzie said the seven were declared dead at the accident scene. Two of the seven were teenagers. Ncalane said police and the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate were investigating the accident.
