Durban -

One person was critically injured and five others seriously injured when two cars collided head-on on the N2 north-bound near Umkomaas in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.

Both cars rolled as a result of the collision, with one of them rolling down an embankment for about 50 metres, said Netcare 911

spokesman Chris Botha.

“We've got one lady trapped in the wreckage and the Jaws of Life are being used to cut her free.”

The woman trapped in the car was in a critical condition.

The five other seriously injured were to be transported to various hospital in the area.

The accident happened around 12.30pm, said Botha. - Sapa
