Durban - Four people, including a three-month-old baby, were killed when their minibus taxi rolled about 100 metres down an embankment near Port Shepstone, on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal emergency services said

“Tragically four people died... (in) the accident which paramedics from KZN EMS (emergency medical services), private ambulance services, the police and the Hibiscus coast fire department responded to at about noon,” spokesman Robert Mckenzie said in a statement.

He said the vehicle rolled down the embankment after it veered off the steep winding Oribi Gorge road.

The three-month-old baby girl survived the crash but died upon arrival at hospital.

“She was rushed to Murchison hospital while being treated by paramedics. However, shortly after arriving at hospital the child's condition deteriorated and she died,” he said.

Eleven other people were injured in the accident. One was critically injured, five sustained serious injuries and the other five had minor injuries.

They were treated on the scene before being transported to Murchison and Port Shepstone hospitals.
