Durban - Three people were killed and more than 60 injured in a collision between a bus, a car, and a bakkie in the southern Drakensberg, paramedics said on Saturday.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Service (EMS) spokesman Robert McKenzie said three men died in the crash near the town of Underberg, in the third accident involving a bus in the province in less than 24 hours.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe said the crash happened on the R617, about 10km from Underberg, at about 5am. She said all three killed were occupants of the car.

About 60 people from the bus and the bakkie were injured, ranging from minor to moderate. Authorities were investigating the accident.

On Friday evening a bus overturned on the N2, near Amanzimtoti, injuring 52 schoolchildren and eight teachers.

Earlier on Friday, a bus rolled down an embankment near Umbumbulu on the R603, which according to ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring, left another 50 children and teachers injured. No fatalities were reported in the earlier crashes.
