Durban - Three people, including a six-year old boy, were killed on Van Reenen's Pass on Friday morning when their bakkie collided with a lorry, the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate said.

Spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said a 10-year old boy had been rushed to Ladysmith Hospital in a critical condition.

The family had been travelling to Durban in an Isuzu bakkie when the left back wheel came off.

“It was at Van Reenen's Pass and he just couldn't control his vehicle when that happened,” she said.

The truck driver was not injured.

Mngomezulu said that the Durban-bound slow lane had been closed to traffic as authorities investigated and cleared up the accident scene. - Sapa
