Two people were killed in Durban when their car hit a tree, paramedics said on Sunday.

Two others were seriously injured in the crash which happened in Durban North late on Saturday night, Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said.

“Common cause suggests that the driver lost control of the car which veered sharply from the roadway and slammed into a large tree, coming to rest wedged against it,” Wicks said.

Netcare911 paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the driver had been killed on impact and his body trapped in the wreckage.

A woman had been flung from the car and her body was found nearby.

“The two other occupants, who were in a serious condition, were treated and stabilised at the roadside by medics and transported by ambulance to the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital,” Wicks said. - Sapa
