Durban – Two pedestrians, one of whom was a six-year old boy, were killed in two separate accidents in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon.

At Cliffdale, about 40 kilometres west of Durban, a woman was killed after being struck by a car as she attempted to cross the N3 highway.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the woman, believed to be about 30-years old, was struck by a car heading in the direction of Durban.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the female lying on the ground with life threatening injuries, tragically she had died at the scene due to the extensive injuries that she sustained.”

Meanwhile, in Maidstone near Tongaat paramedics were called to a collision on the R102.

Botha said that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the 6-year old school boy lying in the road.

He had died before paramedics arrived on scene and he was declared dead.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a child was hit by a truck and then dragged along the roadway for some distance,” said Botha.

He said that the exact cause of the tragedy was subject to a police investigation. Tongaat is about 40 kilometres northeast of Durban.
