Port Shepstone - The two-year-old boy who drowned in a pool in Port Shepstone on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast drowned in a house pool and not in the Kapenta Bay Hotel's pool, the hotel said on Wednesday.

The two-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday.

“The child did not drown at the hotel but at a house in Port Shepstone that is close to the hotel,” Kapenta Bay Hotel general manager Nicole Coertze said.

“The statement sent by paramedics on Tuesday is wrong. Kapenta Bay is the hotel name and not the area.”

On Tuesday, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the boy drowned “in a Kapenta bay pool”.

He said on Wednesday that the child drowned at a residential pool in the Kapenta bay area and not at any resort.

Paramedics pulled him out of the water and performed advanced life support resuscitation, Botha said in a statement on Tuesday.

However, he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Exact detail as to how the child landed in the pool will remain a subject for police investigation and comment,” said Botha.
