Durban - A 17-year-old boy was swept out to sea at Tinley Manor beach on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on Thursday, paramedics said.

“Reports indicate that the bather went out in extremely turbulent water when he was swept out to sea and disappeared under the water,” Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

Lifeguards were searching for the boy when paramedics arrived. Police took over the search effort, Botha said.
