President Jacob Zuma has expressed condolences to the families of 11 people killed in an SA Air Force plane crash this week.

“This tragic incident has caused great anguish to the families and indeed to all of us,” said Zuma in a statement.

“They perished on duty, while providing selfless service to the State and the South African nation.”

He said it was an incalculable loss not only for the air force, but for the SA National Defence Force and the entire country.

“We cannot even begin to imagine the pain that the families are going through,” Zuma said.

He expressed his deepest condolences towards the victims' families, who needed the country's support.

When the Dakota aircraft went missing, there were six crew and five passengers on board.

It crashed in the Drakensberg en route to Mthatha after taking off from Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria on Wednesday. - Sapa
