Polokwane - Seventy people were airlifted to safety from a hill in Lephalale, Limpopo, on Thursday, paramedics said.

“These Lephalale residents took refuge on a hill as water levels from the Mogol River overspill started rising steadily throughout the night,” ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said.

She said a rescue team was on its way to a flooded farm in the area where seven people were reported stranded.

Paramedics were working alongside the fire department, provincial emergency service and the SA Police Service.
