Limpopo - A seven-year-old boy has drowned in Mamatsha Dam at Ga Moleopo, in Limpopo, police said on Friday.

Lesetja Tebogo Tjale was playing near the dam with two friends around 3pm on Thursday, Constable Moses Molepo said in a statement.

Tjale's two friends realised after a while that their friend was missing.

They fetched residents, who then called police.

Tjale's body was retrieved by police from the dam shortly afterwards.

Police opened an inquest docket and urged parents to supervise their children at all times.
