Cop killed by speeding car

Tzaneen – Limpopo police have launched a search for a speeding motorists who knocked down and killed a traffic officer on the R36 outside Tzaneen in a hit-and-run on Sunday afternoon.

The 40-year-old traffic officer, attached the Greater Tzaneen Municipality in the Mopani district, was knocked down while on point duty, police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“It is alleged that this member was on official duties today [Sunday] at about [3.30pm] along the R36 near Tzaneen’s Macdonald market when a speeding car knocked this officer to death and disappeared,” he said.

The motorist’s behaviour was to be condemned, because law enforcement officers were working tirelessly on the roads to ensure road safety.

“We are going to leave no stone unturned on this matter and police investigations are still continuing,” Ngoepe said.
