Johannesburg - Last year’s best overall matriculant in Limpopo will be rewarded with a new car.

The grand prize was expected to be given to the yet-to-be-named star achiever during Tuesday’s official presentation of the provincial results in Polokwane.

Limpopo Toyota representative Eunice Meiring confirmed on Monday that the dealership would give a Toyota Etios to the best pupil.

She said this was to incentivise future matrics to perform well in their studies.

“We do care about the education of our learners,” said Meiring.

The prize was confirmed by provincial Education Department spokesman Phuti Seloba.

“It’s their car. And next year we will give another car,” Seloba said.

A total of 83 597 full-time pupils sat for their 2013 matric exams in the province.

MEC for Education Dikeledi Magadzi was confident that history would repeat itself.

The province was hoping to obtain a 75 percent pass rate.
