MOOKGOPHONG - The N1 highway near Mookgophong, Limpopo, has been cleared and reopened following a horror crash that claimed 11 lives and left 30 people injured.

The road was closed on Monday following the accident, which happened after a bus travelling from Zambia to Gauteng overturned after its tyre burst.

Limpopo transport department spokesperson Matome Moremi said eight women and three men were declared dead while at least 30 others were left injured, two critically, and had to be transported to various hospitals in the province.

"We can confirm that the road has been reopened following the earlier accident... Transport MEC Makoma

Makhurupetje expresses her condolences to the families of the victims," he said.

Moremi confirmed that the department was working with the Department of Home Affairs to get more information on the nationality of the bus's passengers.

The police are yet to comment on the incident.
