Limpopo -

An elephant handler is fighting for his life after being gored by an elephant near Bela-Bela in Limpopo, Beeld newspaper reported on Tuesday.

David Mupupu, 34, was in a serious condition in the Muelmed hospital in Pretoria after being attacked in a private game resort where he worked for Adventures with Elephants.

On Sunday, he turned his back after feeding one of the elephants, who then stormed him.

The elephant gored his leg, picked Mupupu up and threw him against a tree.

He suffered injuries to the leg, liver, wrist and dorsal vertebra.

Adventures with Elephants owner Sean Hensman told Beeld an investigation into the incident was underway. - Sapa
