Johannesburg - The Department of Water and Sanitation in Limpopo, in partnership with Lepelle Northern Water and Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa will clean the Blood River and the Seshego Dam next Tuesday on Mandela Day.

The department on Wednesday said the move was part of its "Clear River Campaign" that is being carried out in July - Mandela Month.

"The main aim is to ensure the clean free-flowing rivers for sustainable water supply and water security for this generation and generations to come. Rivers, dams, wetlands and all freshwater ecosystems belong to all of us, and therefore we have a responsibility to make sure our rivers are clean at all times," the department said in a statement.

The cleanup, which coincides with Mandela's birthday, will begin at Seshego Dam on Tuesday, 18 July 2017, at 09:00.
