Johannesburg - Jane Furse Hospital in Limpopo was reopened on Monday after it was closed for three days due to a contaminated water supply, the provincial health department said.

“We have restarted the service of the hospital and are starting to get patients,” said spokesman Macks Lesufi.

On Friday morning, 72 patients were evacuated after the hospital discovered its water was mixed with diesel.

“We have cleared the reservoir and today (Monday) we are getting the patients back.”

He said it was not known what caused the contamination, but the matter had been handed over to the police.

Colonel Ronel Otto said a case of attempted murder had been opened.

“We are investigating the case and no arrests have been made yet.”
