Johannesburg – Police have arrested a man for allegedly torching his girlfriend's house and that of her parents, in Namakgale, Limpopo.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said the 33-year-old man had called his girlfriend and threatened to burn down her house while she was away on Thursday.

"When she came back home, she found that her three-roomed house was on fire. At around 8:30pm, the suspect proceeded to the victim's parental home where he also set their house on fire. He was swiftly arrested by police," Ngoepe said.

No-one was injured in the incidents. Ngoepe said although the motive behind the incidents was not yet known, domestic squabble was not ruled out.

Community members were once again advised to approach relevant authorities for intervention in cases where they experienced any form of domestic violence, and cautioned against resorting to violent acts such as murder or destruction of property.

The man would appear in the Namakgale Magistrate's Court on Friday to face charges of arson.
